Dr. Robindra Nath Khaund

Dr. Robindra Nath Khaund

Dr. Robindra Nath Khaund, a prominent and long time member of the North American Assamese community, is one of the forerunners, who arrived in the USA long before a majority of present members in the diaspora. In a world of rapid jet age travel, it may seem strange to think that almost half a century ago, it was not unusual for an Indian student aspiring higher education in the USA to spend several weeks on a boat to reach its shining shore.

In Search of Sanjiv Sarma

One of the most vivid memories I have of my Ma is of her standing at the gate of our childhood home at the Gauhati University campus, when Dada, Bhaiti or I were even ten minutes late in arriving home from school. Her eyes would be glued to the road, and she would anxiously look at each school bus, as the students from various schools alighted in their different uniforms. In our youthful ignorance, I remember my brothers and I thinking it was a huge joke and betting if Ma would be at the gate, if our bus stopped at a spot for a minute longer than scheduled.

How to Make Collage

First I collected some old magazines. Then I selected few interesting pictures from those magazines. Now my important part is to think about the theme of my collage. Then I draw the theme with a pencil. After that I cut and paste pictures as needed to display my theme. In this collage, I showed the evaluation of the world. Now a day, more and more people are in the world. Animal and natures are vanishing. Many animals are not any more. People are become more technically advanced. People are making computers, airplanes, big roads, and big bridges to travel faster from one place to another.

Nitin Laid to Rest with Military Honors

I am back from my overnight trip to Houston to attend the funeral of our very own Ram and Alpana Sarngapani's son, Nitin. It was a somber, poignant but dignified event attended by many of Nitin's and the Sarangapanis' friends and relatives and wellwishers.   Nitin was laid to rest by an U S Marine contingent with full military honors. Some of the most touching moments were:

Promoting Specialty Assamese Teas

Promoting Specialty Assamese Teas

There are few places that are as desolate and beautiful as a tea garden in the heart of Upper Assam. Hundreds of thousands of tea bushes on every side and the nearest town fifteen kilometers away, yet even a city boy growing up in these surroundings didn’t have much time to miss his city.
