I wrapped up my things in Bombay and I was ready to come home for eating some of my mother’s good cooking, and getting some long-delayed rest.  My two college buddies from Gauhati happened to be in the city. I met them at our institute when they came to see me. We decided that we should go home together in a joyful group of old friends. I put them up at my hostel for a few nights before our scheduled date of departure.

The year was 1965. It is now more than forty years ago when I was working as an Executive Engineer in the State Government of Nagaland. I was posted in Mokakchang, District Headquarters of the area of the Ao Naga people. My job was to build roads, bridges, buildings, water-supply, and everything else that goes with construction and maintenance of townships in a rapidly developing area, forcing me to neglect family chores, despite my wife, Juthika’s compelling reminders.

If I Were In Charge of the World

If I were in charge of the world
I’d cancel popular kids,
Bad movies,
Sicknesses, and also
Boring classes.

If I were in charge of the world
There’d be chocolate everyday,
You could swim all the time, and
Everyone would be environmental and help the world.

Sankumani Sarma of New Jersey recently went to  Assam and finished working on his Assamese film project KOLA DAWOR that is due to release in theaters in October. Sankumani and his team finished the entire video shoot and completed the music for the film. He also released the audio CD for “Kola Dawor” on 4th of August in Guwahati Press Club. The CD was released by well-known music director Romen Barua amidst a host of press personnel and other guests.
