Students to talk live with Mike aboard ISS

Friends of Assam and Seven Sisters (www.friendsofasam. org) successfully organized a Space Talk at Axam Jatiya Vidyalaya in Guwahati on 7th January. The students of AJV spoke with astronaut Michael Finke, a son-in-law of Assam, through video conferencing. Mr. Fincke is now stationed at the International Space Station (ISS), 350 miles above the earth’s surface. It is worthwhile to mention that prior to this event, FASS very successfully coordinated such talks at Dibrugarh University and St. Anthony’s College in Shillong, which were also first time in India at University and College levels. Please find here with a report in Assam tribune online.

Mike Finke is married to Renita Saikia, daughter of Rupesh and Probha Saikia. Mr. Fincke  has also carried a silk gamocha given to him by the FASS on the eve of his flight to the space station. He will carry back the gamocha with the autographs of his co-astronauts and himself on it. He is scheduled to visit Assam in 2010 when he is expected to bring the gamocha to Assam.

FASS is also planning additional talks, interactions, and video conferencing involving non-residents from Assam and North East region with our people back home. This can be in the areas of education, medicine, tourism, industry, career counseling and other related areas. We appreciate your support and involvement.
