Southern California Assamese people gathered to celebrate their dear festival Rongali Bihu on 15th April.It was real fun that day. The get-together started at 4p.m with a potluck snaks.But it was really a good collection of snacks. We had starting from Pitha,Laru to Chat as snaks. Til Pitha was prepared by Deepa baidew. Not less than 15kinds of snaks were there. After that Drawing competition for kids started. For toddlers, we had fancy dress competition. It was really awesome, seeing little kids in different attires like pandit Nehru, Texas-cowboy etc. Easter egg hunting was another game for kids. We adults had Koni-Juj. Then came main attraction, the cultural show. Southern California Kids performed Bihu dance, Oddessey dance, Kuchipudi dance, Gujrati dance and Hindi song medley dance. In a word they were just awesome. Then ladies performed chorus. Kuxal Bordoloi and Chandan Goswami performed solo Assamese songs. Deepankar Sonowal was the host of the whole cultural show and he assisted in Guitar for all the songs.Last but not least we had Husori followed by Mukoli Bihu.
And then came dinner. Another potluck with more than 20 dishes starting from masor tenga to sandesh as sweet dish,all prepared by ladies of Southern California.
At around 11pm the get-together was over. More than 100 people enjoyed Bihu that day across the seas.
