A Need for Expanding Engineering Education Facilities in Assam for Economic Growth and Human Development

The June 2007 issue of Posoowa ran an article titled “A Need for Expanding Engineering Education Facilities in Assam for Economic Growth and Human Development.” This article has been translated into Assamese and is being published in parts by the esteemed Assamese daily Oxomiya Protidin. The contents of this article were presented to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of Assam at a seminar during Assam 2007 held in Maryland during the July 4th weekend. The Chief Minister is deeply impressed by the advancement possibilities for Assam proposed in the article and the presentation. The article presented the need to start 12 additional engineering colleges, public or private, in Assam and proposed a budget and a structure for their administration. As a result of this article and other persistent efforts in Assam, Mr. Tarun Gogoi has declared his commitment to allow the start of 10 engineering colleges in Assam starting 2008. He has also announced his intention to start a technological university to manage the engineering colleges in Assam, including the new ones.
