Message from the President, ASA

Hello!
I hope you enjoy receiving this newsletter regularly. What you may not know is that a lot of sweat equity goes in behind the scene in publishing a monthly newsletter. The team that is responsible for publishing this monthly newsletter is led by our favorite Jugal Kalita of Colorado. On behalf of our readers, ASA members, and our well-wishes I thank Jugal, Vavani, Ganesh, Satyam, Santonu, Ujjal and Babul for their unbending support and commitment to the organization and its welfare. I also thank those of you who either came in person or virtually via teleconference to the October 10th ASA quarterly meeting (kindly hosted by Ritumoni and Kavita Sharma). We had a good turnout and had excellent discussions on various issues. I’m in the process of completing the meeting minutes which will be received by all members (hopefully before the next quarterly meeting in January 2005!!). Among topics that were discussed included projects that are to be implemented before year’s end (Project Hope to aid the Deaf and Dumb School in Kahilipara, and flood relief money and material aid) and the Assamese Annual Get-Together in July. Regarding the former issue, it is good to have people on ground in Assam who are willing and able to work with us in such causes – we appreciate it very much.

Regarding the issue of the Assamese Annual Get- Together in 2005 and similar matters, I have expressed via word and action that it is my utmost interest to work with others in areas of common interests and goals. Therefore, I do believe that having a common get-together is best for the community and taken appropriate actions necessary toward that end. Although there was no reciprocity as of October 10th, I’m hopeful that a common get-together is still a possibility. However, given the sad realities of 2004 we are exploring alternatives and appropriate decisions will be made by mid-November, I sincerely hope I’ll have good news to share with you before that! With best wishes,

Sincerely,
Sanjib Bhuyan President,
