Cultural Programme of Assam Association, Chennai at Durga Puja

Assam Association, Chennai recently participated a cultural program held in Besant Nagar, Chennai, on the occasion of Durga Puja festival organized by South Madras Cultural Association, Chennai.

Durga Puja is an elaborate Hindu festival celebrated in many parts of India. In Sanskrit Durga means "incomprehensible or difficult to reach". Goddess Durga is a form of Shakti and is worshiped for her gracious and terrifying aspects. She represents the infinite power of the Universe. According to Hindu scriptures, Lord Rama performed Durga Puja in order to get blessing of Durga Maa to kill Ravana who abducted Sita, the spouse of Rama.

Master Arunabh Kumar Bhattacharjee and Akash Kr. Bhattacharjee presented two Assamese songs: Luit nahoi mahakal by Sri Loknath Goswami, and Barasar ritu bhalpaon moi by Late Jayanta Hajarika.

Miss Anusmita Gogoi performed Bihu dance and Miss Triparna Kashyap performed an Assamese Modern dance on the occasion.
