The making of an audio video story in Assamese online

I always look forward for email communication from  Mr. Wahid Saleh.  Mr. Wahid Saleh whom I fondly address as Wahid da often delights me with email stories, anecdotes, beautiful quotations and many times with wonderful ideas. It was in one of such emails that he introduced me to the innovative and alluring concept of ‘Same Language Subtitling’.

Live Telephonic Interaction with Astronaut Mike Finke of ISS

On 1st December 2008 the students of St. Anthony’s College had the unique privilege of having a live interaction with the astronauts from the International Space Station (ISS). The event was held in the packed auditorium of the college. In addition to the staff and students of the college, students from the neighboring schools had also come to witness this unique event. The participants had a ten-minute question and answer session with Mike Finke, the commander of the Expedition 18 at the ISS. Mike is married to an Assamese girl, whose father was also a student at St.

Jorhat Engineering College Alumni Association - Its Mission and Vision

While visiting the web site of Jorhat Engineering College www.jecalumniassn.in in the presence of my friend, I was confronted with an embarrassing comment—my friend immediately on seeing the main building of JEC on the homepage commented—the building looks like the one of a big institute. I modestly reacted—it is indeed a great institute that was established in 1960 by the Government of Assam and it has by now more than 8000 alumni as engineers working in different parts of the world.

Letters to the Editor

Thanks for forwarding a complimentary copy of 'Posoowa'. I've seen one of two of its earlier copy as well. It's a commendable job you are doing. I've read the complete magazine. It was marvelous!  I personally believe those who are living abroad and have seen the world, can help us to widen our vision and mission and make us understand our life and society better. I'm taking in context of Assam and Assamese society.

Diary of a Phoenix

(In  memory of Sabina Saigal Saikia who was killed in the terrorist attacks in Mumbai in November 2008)

The mad frenzy cannot go on for ever.
The Nazis had sprouted and grown.
They were uprooted!

Anne Frank’s diary wasn’t lost;
Rather it turned into a lake of life.

The mercenary Lashkars may come
By sea  or by air.
The Taj on earth shall never stoop!
The wings of countless doves are aflutter!!
Each moment rings with the sap of its life.

Condolence and Prayer Meeting on Sunday 30th November 2008 Blacktown, Australia

A month ago to date – the state of Assam witnessed a series of blasts simultaneously at a number of places across Assam – well planned and coordinated. A large number of ordinary people were killed and many hundreds were injured in broad daylight in crowded market areas, oil refinery locations and minority established areas – a careful choice of sites representing the centers of politics and administration in the state – all indicating an attempt to create utter confusion in the state and centre level of government. In fact it is an assault in multiple fronts.

JUST FOR ASSAM Gatherings for Solidarity and Oneness Russell Square, London

The evening started with a brief introduction to how Just for Assam was born followed by an outline of the “Spirit of Oneness” at different places worldwide to express solidarity with the terror victims of 30th October Assam Bomb Blasts. Sadly, the timing happened to be the immediately after yet another atrocity in India, the Mumbai tragedy and that it was only appropriate to include the victims and their families of both the atrocities in our thoughts and prayers.

Destination Pune

Every educated and well-meaning parent desires that his or her child have the finest education so that the child can have a prosperous and fruitful life. When it is time for the child to receive higher education, usually the parent gets dutifully involved in the search for an educational institution that is best for the child in every possible way: it provides good quality education in a good environment, and of course it is located in a place that is safe for the dear child.
