Srimanta Sankardev Tithi Celebration in Northeast

netithi-2008.jpgThe Assamese community in the Northeast USA celebrated the death (“tirovav”) anniversary of the great saint and scholar Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardev on the 27th of September 2008. As has been the tradition year after year, the community came together to celebrate the “Sankardeva Tithi” at the Kingston Presbyterian Church, Kingston, New Jersey. The celebration started off with delicious snacks and tea provided by the attending families.

Sankardeva Tithi Celebrated in Mumbai

mumbainaam_prasanga_2.jpgAssam Association, Mumbai celebrated the 559th birth anniversary of the great saint and social reformer Srimanta Sankardeva on the 12th of October, 2008. On the occasion of the birth anniversary, Assamese people of Mumbai assembled at Assam Bhavan, Vashi. The celebration started with ritual “Naam Prasanga” performed by Assamese community of Mumbai. The Prasanga ended with the religious Ashirwad ceremony. It was then followed with the distribution of “Mah Praxad”.
